Cultivating creative, communicative, and collaborative citizens.
Chamber music is at the heart of MYCO.
From its home in the beautiful music buildings of UNC-Chapel Hill, MYCO places a small number of highly motivated pre-college musicians in chamber music groups that are carefully selected to foster each student’s personal and musical growth.
Chamber music and chamber orchestra performance under the mentorship of distinguished professionals.
Every coach at MYCO is a world-class chamber musician with experience performing and coaching chamber music at the very highest levels. Under the guidance of our coaches and guest artists, MYCO students have a chance to grow into artistic, creative, collaborative, and communicative musicians and people.
Fostering kindness and collaboration.
MYCO students are part of a musical community that values kindness and collaboration. Chamber music helps students develop their skills in listening — not only to music, but to others. Empathy and kindness are core values at MYCO that create a welcoming, inclusive, and collaborative environment.

“MYCO has quite literally watched me grow up. I don’t think I would be where I am today without MYCO or Passera [Quartet].”
—Seunne Khoo
“MYCO and Passera is the culmination of everything that’s so great about chamber music: being surrounded with the best coaches, the best people, and the best music.”
—Grace Dai
During the school year, MYCO offers a program on Sunday afternoons for intermediate and advanced string players and pianists between the ages of 10 and 18.
MYCO also offers an intensive summer workshop program for one week in June for middle school, high school, and college students.

Tara Gugnani
Residency
Tara Gugnani (MYCO participant 2018-2022) loved MYCO: the camaraderie; the friendships; the shared music-making; the inspiration from playing and rehearsing alongside older students, alumni, faculty and guest artists.
The Annual Chamber Music Residency in honor of Tara Gugnani brings a string quartet or chamber ensemble to MYCO every year. The residency will include a masterclass; a concert for MYCO students and their families; and a side-by-side performance alongside the students in chamber orchestra.
